Paddling is the choice on the last day before school starts

paddling on Mokelumne RiverThe nine week run of doing what they want when they want to (more or less) comes to a close tomorrow when D returns to the classroom (two Frosh classes, three Seniors – all 40 plus in size).

They both agreed that whatever they did should not require much driving and be a good  antidote to 90 degree heat. They chose a stretch of the Mokelumne River reached from near Hwy 99 to a point two and a half miles east. It was the same paddle that they’d done last August by moonlight.

And like last year, they put it at a small beach to take a mid-paddle break. In daylight, it doubled as a good (clothing optional) swimming hole. The River was surprisingly colder than Donner Lake but made the return trip more pleasurable…
