It’s called Windy Hill for a reason

Windy Hill horizontal

Windy Hill verticalFor her money, L thinks the loop hike up Spring Ridge to Windy Hill on Skyline Blvd. and down to Portola Valley via Hamms Gulch trail is the best. It has a little of everything. Going up is a bit of a butt kicker, but each steep wedge is greeted with the respite of a little bit of flat. There are good benches on the Anniversary Trail along the ridge line to stop for a picnic lunch. And you get to taste of a redwood forest when you descend back down.

Not surprisingly, it was windy at the top, a little too much so to have a lunch on the very top. Moving a little further on, they found a bench that was sheltered from the wind somewhat.

The star today was Maggie, who got many comments and accolades from people not expecting a dog her size to be tackling such a climb. But D and L know she is a gamer…
