Southern California weather greets the new year on Northern California beaches

New Years Day hike

New Years Eve festivities were cancelled when four out of the eight participants were felled by one type of bug or another. But L was bound and determined not to let a bit of a cold ruin New Years Day as well.

snoozing Harbor SealThe smart compromise was a relatively short hike from Pompiono State Beach to Bean Hollow State beach coast side. The bonus was that dogs were allowed on the trail, which allowed them to be accompanied by both The Mag and Annabelle, who they were taking care of for Holly.

The somewhat surprising sight was kids in swim suits going for a dip in the ocean. The bonus sighting was a group of Harbor seals basking on the rocks. A knowledgeable coast side resident explained they were waiting for the tide to go out so they could feast on the sea life left behind. While waiting, the marine mammals sunbathed…
