Walk around the “island” yields sighting of three river otters

island walk_hor_010514

river otters_010514L has always referred to the open space of land surrounded by water on three sides as an “island”, but, of course, it is not technically. There are many such tracts out on the Delta.

D thinks “their” tract is called Bacon Tract and that one segment of water is called Mosher Slough. Whatever the names, they got a big reward on their noon, pre 49ers game walk – three river otters, all of who appeared to be adults. They’d seen them on various paddles they’d taken on more remote waters but none this close to home.

It is one of the reasons L will miss Stockton. Alas, no river otters in San Francisquito Creek…
