The Adventurers did a tune up for Cinque Terra hiking today that just may top what they will see later in the week.
Their starting pointing was the road from Santa Margherita to Portofino, where they got off the bus just before they got into town and walked up to the Splendido hotel. From there, they walked along first a “paved” road and then along a trail to San Fruttuoso (pictured, top) a distance of about six miles.
The distance, though, doesn’t do justice to two things. It was jaw-dropping beautiful for much of the way. And it had its challenges, given the steep ups and downs, much of it by steps.
The descent into San Fruttuoso made them thankful that they’d started where they did, rather than the reverse, as it was both rocky and filled with tree stumps that needed to be carefully navigated.
By the time they got to the “outskirts” of San Fruttuoso, they were ready for lunch and stopped at La Cantina, where they ate right on the beach.
It was picture postcard perfect…
