Slipping and sliding up and down Windy Hill on a beautiful winter morning

The Adventurers hike up Spring Ridge trail to the summit of Windy Hill and back down to Portola Valley via Hamm’s Gulch today felt more like a spring hike, even though the calendar indicated winter.

The trails – or most of them – had dried out enough, but there were a couple of places where it was all slip and slide. That’s what adobe mud will do.

And there was still water streaming down on most trails. All of that good news to Maggie.

They could see many trees which had fallen into the creek and quite a few of them across the trail. Then there was the avalanche of mud that took some careful footing to climb up and over.

A wonderful way to spend three and a half hours outdoors…
