When the Adventurers were planning this trip, L was delighted to see that their aircraft from SFO to Frankfurt was a 747. She hadn’t been on one for quite some time and it was always her favorite, at least if you was lucky enough to be on the upper deck.
United is retiring all of it 747s, which debuted in 1970, at the end of this year. It’s been a good run but the equipment is antiquated and not fuel efficient by today’s standards.
L’s cousin Robin was part of the 747 during his years at United and L’s friend Ginger’s father ferried the Space Shuttle from Edwards, where it has landed, back to the Cape.
The “queen of the skies” has proved lot of history…
