Getting a taste of the backroads of the Santa Cruz Mountains

This afternoon D had a job refereeing a water polo game at Cabrillo College and L went along for the ride.

D reffing at Cabrillo - 1Through the wonders technology, the suggested route was not over Hwy. 17 to Hwy. 1 and then south, but rather to take Summit Rd. off of 17 and take the back way in. What a pleasant surprise, a lovely not to twisty road through the redwoods before descending to a valley near Soquel.

While D got set up to ref, L went and purchase their dinner for the evening at the always reliably delightful Gayles. Then after watching the old ref do his stuff, they headed home on the same backroad.

The highlight was a stop at Burrell School winery, a brand L had been introduced many years ago, but had tasted for almost as long. They went in to buy a bottle. They came out with five…
